Greenway Alliance
The Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg Main Line Canal Greenway Alliance is a convening organization for outdoor recreation, conservation, heritage, and community revitalization groups to share information and report on plans and progress on Greenway-related undertakings.
The purpose of the coordinating committee is to:
- Develop continuity and synergy among individual trail, heritage, and community revitalization organizations and projects within the Main Line Canal Greenway corridor
- Maximize the use of human and financial resources for the implementation of the 2004 Main Line Canal Greenway Plan
- Stimulate Greenway programming, marketing, and promotion
For planning and development purposes, the Greenway Plan identified six “clusters” or planning units – Pittsburgh, Kiski-Conemaugh, Juniata West, Juniata East, and Harrisburg. Each of the clusters is represented within the Greenway Alliance. Each of the Greenway’s interest areas is represented within the Alliance as well – environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation, heritage preservation, and community revitalization.
